Android TV 13 is officially launched: Here are the new features |
so I recently came across this news Android TV 13 is here and I was born because maybe there's finally a brand new UI for Android TV maybe there's new features so I was really excited but wait a second Android TV 13 is here on what well it turns out Android TV 13 is only available for one device the developer specific Google ADT three Android TV box yeah unlike pixels which get the latest Android release on the very first day Google did not even bring Android TV 13 to its Chromecast even though it's a stable release kind of tells you about where Android TV is on Google's priorities anyway good news is we have the adt3 Android TV box and when I set it up turn it on first thing it showed me is the new Android TV 13 update is available yeah well I downloaded the update which was like 700 MBS I installed it the TVD started and this is Android TV 13. okay I mean the home screen looks the same as Android TV 12 or 11 or 10 or 9 I can Android TV 13 is officially launched: Here are the new features
keep going the settings also look the same yes there is the Android 13 thingy here but there's no way to rotate this clock and get the Easter egg yeah it's kind of pointless now I thought maybe there are some new features that I am missing so I opened up Google's changelog and these are all the new Android TV 13 features so there's improved audio manager API ability to change resolution and refresh rate on supported HDMI Source devices better power saving with HDMI State changes input device API now suppose different keyboard layouts and then there's the new accessibility features that's all look I understand these are important developer specific behind the scene changes in Android TV but it looks like Google just packaged a minor Android TV 12.0.1 update as a brand new Android TV 13 update this actually makes the Android TV 12 update from last year which by the way was also minor updates Android TV 13 is officially launched: Here are the new features
seem way better at least Standard TV 12 brought these new permission controls this mic in camera privacy indicator this my camera toggle and rounded Corners to these boxy UI elements that's great and that's actually huge compared to Android TV 30. now jokes apart when I went back and checked almost all Android TV updates since its origin have been minor updates so yeah it's nothing surprising like scenario TVs almost always look the same yes there have been under the hood improvements like always and Google has added ads here on top which I know a lot of you are Furious about but at about Android TV Android TV 13 is officially launched: Here are the new features Remains the Same old outdated Android TV and this is the reason why a lot of people including me have been waiting for a uidwamp it did not arrive in Android TV 12 we're waiting for it it hasn't arrived in Android TV 13 and I'm not really hopeful about Android TV 14 either it's a shame because it's not
like Google can't make a modern looking TV UI I mean just look at Google TV it too has a lot of these ads and recommendations on the home screen but unlike Android TV it has an option to disable them with one click yes I'm not even kidding this actually brings me to the whole Android TV versus Google TV confusion it's actually crazy I mean Google TV was launched with the Chromecast 4K I literally assumed that this new Google TV experience is going to replace the Android TV experience I mean this was the title I went with for our video I was so confident I mean I was confident because Google TV was way smoother it was smoother it had this Rotten Tomatoes integration the settings page with its dual paint design look beautiful and more functional compared to the Bland one on Android TV you could see the battery status of your AAA battery power remotes the integration with Android phones was way better because Google TV had its own remote app Android TV 13 is officially launched: Here are the new features
on Android which was way more responsive so I obviously assume that this new better UI experience will be available for everyone new TVs will launch with this new experience but it's been two years and obviously that hasn't happened and this is actually very strange because it's not like this Google TV experience is exclusive to Google devices for example the whole pixel experience you get on Pixel phones is exclusive to pixel devices so we don't get that on other Android phones and I'm okay with that a little Competitive Edge for Google but Google TV on the other hand is available on Google's Chromecast devices other stakes and boxes like the real me Google TV stick and it's available on TVs from Sony Hisense Philips and even some TVs by TCM so my question to Google is why aren't all Android TVs Google TVs why are there two different platforms when one is Android TV 13 is officially launched: Here are the new features Android TV 13 is officially launched: Here are the new features
